Poppit Sand

LLYGAD YR HAUL is within easy reach of Cardigan Boat Club and the 18 hole Cardigan Golf Course with it’s stunning views across the estuary and the sea beyond.
There are numerous local visitor attractions including the RAINFOREST CENTRE with it’s beautiful butterflies, the FIRE AND STEAM engine Museum, WILD WEST QUAD BIKES and, CILGERRAN WILDLIFE CENTRE.

POPPIT SAND, a beautiful expanse of sandy beach, is approximately six miles by road and can be easily reached on the far shore by crossing the Teifi over the bridge in Cardigan town and by passing through St. Dogmaels with its ancient ruined Abbey. Here the famous PEMBROKESHIRE COASTAL PATH begins where you can walk a small part, or all, of the 180 miles of stunning, magnificent and spectacular views of the coastline, finishing at Amroth on the Southern Coast.

Magnificent views of the rugged coastline of Cardigan Island which can be seen from the nearby CARDIGAN FARM PARK is just 1.5 miles along the road. The Island which is about 200 metres offshore is a native reserve owned by the West Wales Wildlife Trust and is populated a flock of wild Soay sheep. At the farm there is an array of friendly farm animals and also Wallabies, Llamas, Emus and much more.
CARDIGAN BAY is home to Bottle Nosed Dolphins and they are regular visitors to this part of the coast on warm calm days. A colony of Atlantic Grey Seals occupies the caves below Cardigan Farm Park and the seals are often seen at close quarters poking their heads above the sea with a quizzical look.

The surrounding area is steeped in history and the wild life, flora and fauna of Cardiganshire Coast and Country are quite incredible. There are numerous Red Kites and Buzzards and Otters in the wild, and hundreds of plants, including rare orchids, are to be found growing naturally in the uncluttered countryside around. Castles in the area abound and for the historian enthusiast there is a ruin to see every few miles.

For the less energetic Cardigan has much to offer the visitor where a warm Welsh Welcome awaits. There is Theatre Mwldan situated near the centre of town offering live shows, two cinema screens, a cafeteria and exhibitions featuring local artists and photographers.
The shops are small locally owned businesses with few chain store names making the shopping both interesting and friendly with plenty of galleries selling artworks by local artists.The many local hotels, inns and restaurants offer good quality food in a variety of styles including takeaway. The Cliff Hotel and the Gwbert Hotel at nearby Gwbert or the Penrallt Hotel at Aberporth being the nearest to Llygad yr Haul. The Boat Club and the Golf Club at Gwbert can provide you with a lighter meal.

A real treat is a visit to RHOS Y GILWEN which hosts live performances of world class performers of classical music. During the summer months there are open air performances of Shakespeare plays and concerts at St, Dogmaels Abbey and Cilgerran Castle where you could enjoy a picnic at the same time. Once a year in the summer there is a parade of horses through Cardigan streets of every possible breed competing for show prizes, this event is known as Barley Saturday.
